Easy to read introduction into what chakras are and how they can help us heal, enjoy better health and a better, more balanced lifestyle.

Unbalanced chakras can lead to an unbalanced life - poor health, poor emotional wellbeing and can affect your happiness.

Many healing modalities have a single belief in common – that of a system of energy points throughout a human (and animal) body which can have a profound impact on our states of emotional and mental health.

Chakras are perceived as whirling energy fields that are aligned to various organs and parts of the body. The most common and major chakras are those which form a line from just above our head (Crown Chakra), down our spines to the base or Root Chakra which lines up with our coccyx bone.

There are many more chakras throughout our bodies, in our hands, feet and other areas, but these are considered to be minor and do not usually attract the attention of healers.

The word chakra is an old Sanskrit one which means “wheel” or “disc” and perfectly describes the whirling motion of this subtle energy. Chakras are often shown as lotus flowers on diagrams and treatment by aligning and balancing them was developed as a traditional Hindu system of healing.

Modern science is able to record the existence of energy levels and energy fields, including auras around living things – just because we cannot see something does not mean it cannot exist.

From a healer's experience, checking a client’s chakras and rebalancing them when necessary can have interesting and sometimes surprising results.

By examining the auric field (the energy flow around a person) and using their hands to feel for obstructions and imbalances healers are often able to detect “blockages” in the flow which indicate there may be some physical issues which need attention.

Although healers may be proficient in their modalities it is, however, important for them to refer clients to mainstream medical practitioners if they suspect a physical ailment.

They are usually happy to continue treating a client they should also encourage them to seek other advice - there is never anything wrong with having a second opinion.

Chakra balancing and other energy healing therapies are complementary to mainstream support, not a replacement for it.

The seven main chakras, starting at the first chakra and working upwards are: the Root or Base chakra which is found at the base of the spine and embedded in the coccyx bone in your bottom; the second chakra is the Sacral chakra, which is in your lower abdomen between your genitals and your belly button; the third chakra, the Solar Plexus chakra is located between your navel and the base of the sternum; the Heart chakra is in the center of your chest and is the fourth chakra; the fifth chakra is in the hollow at the base of your neck and is called the Throat chakra; while the sixth chakra is in the middle of your forehead, above and between your eyes and is called the Third Eye chakra. The last, and seventh chakra is the Crown chakra, which is just above the top of your head.

This energy system can affect your life in subtle and amazing ways.
