A pendulum can be used to find answers to questions and tap into one's own intuition. A simple pendulum can be made by suspending a small weight at the end of a string.

A pendulum is a small object that, when suspended from a fixed point, moves in response to a natural force. Pendulums can be used for psychic inquiry. Some of pendulum's many uses include finding lost objects, tapping into one's own inner wisdom and using it as a tool for self-improvement.

How to Choose a Pendulum for Dowsing

Dowsing has traditionally been associated with detecting under ground sources of water. A pendulum can be used to dowse for information. It is important to choose a pendulum that the questioner is comfortable with. A pendulum can be as simple as a wedding ring or a paper clip suspended from a thread. Pendulums are also available at new age stores and come in various sizes and shapes.

If the pendulum is being bought, its preferable to choose wood, glass, crystal or plastic as these materials are not conductors of electricity. Copper and aluminum do not make good weights for pendulums. The weight should be symmetric for ease of use. Spherical and cylindrical shapes work best for weights. The string is ideally light-weight and 6 to 12 inches long.

How to Use a Pendulum for Psychic Inquiry for Beginners

The pendulum is not difficult to use, but it takes some practice to phrase the appropriate question. Questions could be asked aloud or in thought. There are many ways to use the pendulum for divination. One approach to familiarizing oneself with the pendulum is as follows:

  1. Choose a pendulum that is comfortable to use.
  2. Hold it a few inches above a clean sheet of paper.
  3. Start by asking a basic question that you already know the answer to, that will elicit an answer "yes" from the pendulum. Notice the direction the weight moves toward. This is the direction of the answer "yes" for the rest of the session. Ask a question that will elicit a "no" from the pendulum, to determine the direction of the answer "no" for the remainder of the questioning session. This process may need to be repeated for each session, until the practitioner is familiar with the pendulum, as the direction of the "yes" and "no" may change.
  4. Hold the pendulum and command it to be still. The weight should come to a stop or complete rest.
  5. Once all the above steps are done, ask the prepared questions. If the questioner feels that the answer to a question was not right or appropriate, the question could be re-phrased or repeated.

Serious users of pendulum for divination, understand that it is not a toy and that frivolous, playful or insincere questions are to be avoided. It is not necessary to be psychically gifted or proficient to use the pendulum to get answers. An open, inquisitive mind and a willingness to suspend disbelief is usually all that is needed to be successful.

I am constantly amazed, no make that shocked, that dowsers, thoroughly caring and decent human beings that they are, don't volunteer their services to clear landmines in the third world. Their talents are sorely needed.
