Why do humans exist? What's the meaning of life? The answer, say metaphysical experts such as Edgar Cayce, is that the purpose of life is soul growth.
If you stop, just for a millisecond — log off Facebook, put down the T.V. remote, let your fingers take a break from texting or Twittering, or take even one deep breath while you’re stuck in commuter traffic, those sneaking questions may arise unbidden: Why do humans exist? Is this the best use of our time on Earth? The great religions of the world have tried to solve these questions for thousands of years, but more recently, author Kevin J. Todeschi found answers by exploring the work of renowned Christian mystic Edgar Case, in his aptly titled book, Edgar Cayce on Soul Growth. Cayce’s Three Keys of Soul GrowthCayce believed that the meaning of life is “soul growth,” or a process of learning spiritual lessons. Todeschi notes that Cayce’s keys to soul growth are threefold: the setting of spiritual ideas, the application of spiritual principals on earth, and a personal connection with the Divine. If such is the case, the question begs: how do we create a personal, direct connection with the Divine? There are many ways to have a direct connection with the Divine, but in most cultures, prayer and meditation are common. Psychic channeling, an oft misunderstood practice, is another way to allow the self to step aside momentarily, for a few moments or much longer time period, thus allowing the Divine to step in. How Channels Receive Divine GuidanceFor clairvoyants, channeling results in seeing visions and images in the mind’s eye; the images are provided by the Divine for the illumination of the receiver. For clairaudients, channeling results in receiving words as sounds that are spoken through the voice (allowing oneself to be spoken through as is the practice of Esther Hicks), or in channeled writing, such as in Conversations with God, Course in Miracles, or this author’s The 33 Lessons. In all cases, the self moves aside, so that the Divine may reveal or speak. For most people, receiving this kind of Divine guidance may be overwhelming at first; the clarity of this kind of information leaves little room for doubt or misinterpretation of what the Divine wants you to do! Sell your car, get a new job, leave a relationship? The Divine will be quite clear! Setting Spirituality in PracticeHowever, with Cayce’s approach, a direct connection with the Divine is not the only aspect of soul growth. For those who practice a religion, the setting of spiritual ideas and the application of spiritual principals may be simple; the religion may provide the framework. For those who follow no particular religion, self-discovery may be necessary to understand what one’s spiritual ideals are, and how best to live a life based on them.
