Years ago, I researched A Course in Miracles after having read several positive things on it by people whose opinions on spiritual matters I respected. For the uninitiated, the Course is self-taught at your own pace and focuses on the healing of relationships and making them holy.
A Course in Miracles emphasizes that it is but one version of the universal curriculum, of which there are "many thousands." Consequently, even though the language of the Course is that of traditional Christianity, it expresses a non-sectarian, non-denominational spirituality.
The summary introduction reads:
"This is A Course in Miracles. It is a required course. Only the time you take it is voluntary. Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time. The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love's presence, which is your natural inheritance. The opposite of love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite."
Dr. Helen Schuman, a clinical and research psychologist initially scribed the work through a process of inner dictation which she attributed to Jesus. What makes A Course in Miracles unique is that it is comprised of several teaching books and workshops which each works through at his or her own pace. Initially, the books were very expensive, which was ne reason I did not embark in its study at the time.
Thanks to the advent of the Internet however, there are now several sites which offer the course now for free - some of which deliver each days lesson and workbook right to your inbox. Enjoy.
